This is about as mindless as a shooter can get. There is absolutely no strategy involved, just dodge and shoot. Is this a bad thing? Well it can be in some instances but in this case it's not. The game does exactly what it was designed to do. Be a great port of an arcade shooter. It's mindless fun for a few hours.
So what is the game about you ask? I'm not sure exactly. I bet it says somewhere in the manual though. The truth is, I don't care about the story. This game stands on it's own as a fun action-packed shooter (submarine shooter at that). I had a great time with it even without the story.
The graphics are great! Explosions are everywhere. Every graphical element of this game was done to perfection. It is truly a sight to behold. It's a 2D sprite shooter, but a great looking one at that. As I've said before, polygons are great, but games can still be good without them.
Sound is pretty good too. The explosion sounds are not up to Raiden II, but they're still good. The music gets a little repetive but your ears will be tuned into the explosions anyway.
It's hard to talk up the gameplay. There are no new elements here. It's mindless shooting like I said before. Still, this is a good thing for this game.
The replay value is average here. It's fun to play a few times, but it just doesn't have the intensity of say "Raiden II" to keep you coming back.
Originality? Well, there's only been about a million mindless shooters. What can I say?!
In conclusion, I enjoyed "In the Hunt". It's great fun for a few hours. You won't get much longevity out of this one, but at bargin bin prices, it's worth the price of admission.
