Here's the story, quoted directly from the Redneck Rampage Helpyall.txt file:
"A classic tale of alien livestock abduction! Leonard and Bubba are two good-ol' boys from the backwoods of Arkansas who have a score to settle with some low-down, dirty space aliens. It seems these ornery extra- terrestrials made off with their prize pig, Bessie. Now they're fixin' to find out what happens when you separate a man from his sow. So ride shotgun with our two unlikely heroes as they go on the rampage, searching high and low for Bessie and stomping on anything that gets in their way!"
Sound like fun to you? Well, it was for the short period that it lasted. The demo of this game was over about an hour after it started (it's actually never ends, you kill all the enemies, and walk aimlessly around Taylor town after that). Interplay did not give nearly as much to go on in their demo as the other corridor shooters have. Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, ect.. All their demo's are games in themselves. This demo is just a taste of what the retail version will be. Which isn't bad at all, considering it's free!
One thing I can say good about this game is that it's funny. It's another Doom clone, but was given a humorus edge to change things from the established Doom norm. Your healed by drinking beer and wiskey which you pick up along the way. You can't get too drunk though, cause you'll feel the adverse effects! You get additional powerups by eating pork rinds, and moon pie. Everything in this games screams "Redneck"!! Even the opening scenes set the mood by showing a pickup truck driving through a flock of chickens.
Sadly though, once you get past the initial wow factor, there's not much to get you excited. You battle the same enemies, walk down country roads that all look alike, and get eaten alive by mosquitos. There are a few hidden levels, but even these are short. The full version offers a full 14 levels, so I'm sure much of this repetiveness will be resolved. It kinda makes it hard to rate this demo because we don't know what the retail version will contain.
Graphics are nice, I sure wish I could see it in that 1600x1200 mode that it says the game supports. Still, when I rate the graphics I rate PC games stronger on graphic content rather than resolution. Aside from the repetive nature, the graphics are generally good.
All in all, I liked this game. It was a nice change of pace from your normal Doom clone. If the retail verson isn't as repetive as the Demo, it's sure to be a winner!
